Alaska Anchorage heads to the Land of Lincoln for multi-team meets this week at Illinois State (tonight) and Northern Illinois (Sunday).For their efforts in the win, Labat was selected for her third MIC Gymnast of the Week award and also took home Performance of the Week honors, Grolla was named the Newcomer of the Week, and junior Julia Heiner was selected for the Coaches' Choice Award.Angelica Labat (all-around & vault), Reese Grolla (bars), and Madison Kipp and Ally Lau (tied beam) were all event winners for the Redbirds, with Labat's all-around win being her fourth in as many meets.ISU capped things off in impressive fashion with a 49.325 on vault, which is the second-highest score on the event in school history. The Redbirds are coming off their best performance of the season, as they set a season-high team score of 195.975 in their tri-meet victory last week against Southeast Missouri State and Fisk University.The top 36 teams at the end of the season are those selected to compete at the NCAA Regionals. 34 in the first team NQS rankings of the year. In addition, fans are encouraged to get to their seats early as the 2023 Midwest Independent Conference championship team will be honored with a banner unveil prior to the start of the meet. Admission is FREE and donations will be accepted throughout the meet.
